Essential to the composite structure, mortar contributes to the building's longevity, authenticity and aesthetic.

Acknowledging every building as unique, Calibre's conservation strategy starts with an understanding of the physical and chemical properties of your mortar and its substrate. This informs appropriate specification, materials and practice.

Non-structural repair:

  • Desalination (dry removal, poulticing and sacrificial render or plaster)

  • Dry (mechanical) and wet (aqueous and chemical) cleaning    

  • Decorative plaster and render (run mouldings, moulding and casting, pressed and cast enrichment, in-situ modelling)

  • Pargeting 

  • Sgraffito

Structural repair:

  • Render and plaster repairs  (infilling, restraint fixings, grouting, edge fillets)

  • Removing embedded iron fixings

  • Removing failing or hard and impermeable render or plaster 

  • Pointing (including historic joint finishes)

  • Replacing render or plaster on solid or flexible support (including historic finishes)

  • First time protective rendering
